Bump Update: 24 Weeks

I am 24 weeks with our little man. Tracking pregnancies can be confusing, so I actually misspoke on my last update saying I had one month left of the second trimester… that was not true, but it is now as I am currently in my sixth month of pregnancy.

Per usual, the apps can’t agree on what size he is, but somewhere between a cantaloupe and a papaya. Roughly 12 inches long and 1.5 pounds. Growing like a weed!

Although I still feel pretty good, this past week I started experiencing really sore nipples for the first time and it’s not fun. Other than that, the usual lower back discomfort, exhaustion, insomnia, pregnancy brain, and constant peeing.

I’m still working tirelessly on getting his room ready and all his essentials stocked up. It’s such a fun project and I am having a blast. I only have a few things left to do for his room and I think it is coming together beautifully and will for sure be completed months before his arrival.

We start the third trimester in a month. At our next appointment, I’ll take my glucose test to check for gestational diabetes and start going to the midwife twice a month. But for now, we are just waiting patiently for his arrival.

Bump Update: 20 Weeks

Woah, we’re half way there
Woah, livin’ on a prayer
-Bon Jovi

Cheesy to quote Bon Jovi in regards to pregnancy? Probably. Do I care? Not one bit. At 20 weeks, we are HALFWAY to meeting our little guy. We have one more month left of the second trimester | five months along.

About this time in the pregnancy, all the apps start to really differ on sizing. So he’s somewhere between a large sweet potato and a really fat banana. 😀 Weighing in around 11 ounces and stretching out to 6.5 inches.

Last week we had our anatomy scan where they confirm the baby’s gender, check all the baby’s organs and spine to make sure they are all there and growing correctly, and point out your baby’s body parts to you. You get to hear and see the heartbeat. Jameson looked wonderful, no issues. And we got updated pictures that I put up around the house.

I am very grateful to have had a low-key pregnancy so far. Just some minor back aches and paints, exhaustion, frequent hunger, trouble sleeping, constant peeing, and a bit of pregnancy brain. Pregnancy Brain is a new offender as of the last couple of weeks. Nothing too bad, mainly just losing my train of thought, but it causes me to talk to myself a lot which is always fun.

Right now, I am just busy putting together Jameson’s nursery and gathering some cute clothes. I honestly I had no idea I would be so excited to shop for boy clothes, but I’ve found some great stuff! Currently on a spending freeze until next month, because baby stuff is just so so so adorable.

Bump Update: 16 Weeks

For this pregnancy, I am going to do my bump updates a little differently. Last time around, I had an outline of questions to track my progress, but I felt it got a little redundant. So this time I’m going to try to make it a little more relaxed and just share what I want when I want.

At 16 weeks pregnant, I am finishing up my first month of my second trimester, aka four months along. That’s a mouthful, but I like to try and keep track of how close I am to the finish line.

Baby Grey is roughly the size of an avocado. Approximately 4-5 in and 3-4 oz. One great thing about the second trimester is that baby is actually starting to look like a baby. Baby is currently covered in hair with sensitivity to light and working ears.

The first trimester was pretty low-key. I didn’t experience any morning sickness or nausea, yay! The real kickers were using the restroom 24/7, backache, exhaustion, and severe hunger. The severe need to eat was a new one – I didn’t experience anything like it during my first pregnancy. There were a couple instances where I would be driving somewhere and literally start bawling and shaking, because I was so hungry. I would have to pull into a gas station and grab a drink and snack to hold me over… and it was instant relief. I did have to take progesterone again, so I had a few emotional scares, but once we figured out my dosage, everything leveled out.

Going into the second trimester, not too much has changed. I still have to go the restroom constantly, the backache and exhaustion comes and goes, I’m still hungry as heck, and let’s be honest, I’m always an emotional wreck. The transition from being a stomach sleeper to a side sleeper is happening and that is tough. The current tricky part is that I keep waking up on my back which is not good. I just keep reminding myself that I figured the sleep thing out last time, so I can do it again. I have also felt a few baby flutters which is always such a sweet surprise!

We do know the gender already and I am really excited to share it with y’all in a few weeks!

Bump Updates, Hazel, Pregnancy

Bump Update: 26 Weeks

How Far Along Are You?

26 Weeks & 5 Days

How Big is Baby?

(According to the app) Hazel is the size of kale… is that a bushel or a bunch or a few stalks? Who knows, because I don’t eat kale. But it roughly translates to 14 inches and a little over 1.5 pounds.

Total Weight Gain

13 pounds (126lbs)

How Are You Sleeping?

I am still sleeping great – minus the heartburn and acid reflux attacks. I feel so grateful to have no had my sleep disturbed too much by the bump. Besides needing to take a bathroom break or two throughout the night, I have been sleeping quite well. I still have not caved and bought a pregnancy pillow.

Any Food Cravings?

I have been disappointed in the fact that I haven’t had any super crazy or super intense cravings. Besides just having the urge to devour all the salty snacks I can get my hands on I haven’t experienced too much.

Any Food Aversions?

Nope.

How are Your Clothes Fitting?

Ha! Besides a few specific outfits, I feel pretty uncomfortable in most of my clothes. Although I would still consider myself relatively thin besides my bump, I have thickened in the thigh and hip area, so my jeans are no longer practical and even some of my leggings are too tight. Before this past week, I had one pair of maternity leggings and I wore them just about every day, so I recently invested in a few more pairs of maternity leggings and a couple pairs of maternity pants. Shirts and dresses haven’t been too much of a problem – a lot of my regular shirts work for around the house and I have enough maternity shirts to keep me comfortable when I go out.

Any Symptoms?

Hunger: Give me all the food!! I am constantly hungry, especially for anything salty. I’m looking at you Tostitos!

Acid Reflux: Hello acid reflux and welcome to the party. Multiple nights this week as I am trying to sleep, I will wake up in a coughing fit feeling like something is stuck in my throat. I will cough to try and get it out and then I will feel like my throat is on fire and I’m going to throw up. I will go get a drink of water and after that my throat just hurts and tastes bad.

Heartburn: The heartburn is still pretty consistent. I am more shocked if I lay down for bed and it doesn’t act up. One night I ate a bowl of ice cream before bed and had no heartburn, soooo excuse to eat more ice cream? I think yes!

Skin: Well the breakout on my nose has finally died down, but a few others have popped up on my forehead. I don’t think my clear complexion is coming back any time soon.

Sore Breasts: Yep.

Back Pain: My back pain has eased up quite a bit! I notice is less on the days I am able to work from home, because I am able to move around more and sit in different positions verses the days I have to sit in my office chair. A few nights a week my back will hurt towards the end of the day, but nothing a little back rub can’t solve.

Nesting: This is by far my favorite symptom! I just get so much done. I finally finished cleaning out Hazel’s side of the room completely and got all of the donations to the car. I have been cleaning dishes and cooking – yep, cooking!! – on a regular basis. I feel like I’m well on my way to being ready to be called ‘mom.’

Baby Movement?

Hazel has been a little kickboxing acrobat and it is the most wonderful thing! I don’t know what she’s doing exactly in there, but every time I feel her kick or push against my belly it brings a smile to my face – it is especially nice during a tough or exhausting day at work. Her favorite time to get moving is when I’m sitting or laying for long periods of time – aka working or sleeping, but I don’t mind!

What Are You Most Looking Forward To?

Our next ultrasound (which should be somewhere in the 28/29 week area) and our little babymoon we have planned. I am over the moon with excitement about seeing our little nut again on the big screen, but I am also very excited about a short and sweet getaway the hubs and I have planned in a few weeks.

Bump Update: 24 Weeks

How Far Along Are You?

24 Weeks & 6 Days

How Big is Baby?

This week Hazel is the size of a cantaloupe. She is approximately 12 inches long and 1 pound. How can she already be a pound? 😮

Total Weight Gain

13 pounds (126lbs)

How Are You Sleeping?

Sleeping is surprisingly going really well. I never caved on a getting a pregnancy pillow. I just can’t get over how big and bulky they are. But so far, falling asleep hasn’t been as difficult as everyone made it out to be – which is a relief! As long as I don’t have a really full stomach from eating too much and sleep on my side, I sleep just fine.

Any Food Cravings?

The past couple days I have been all about the sugar. Begging Jeremiah to pick up rice krispie treats and cheesecake at the store and late night runs for ice cream.

Any Food Aversions?

Nope.

How are Your Clothes Fitting?

Truthfully, I went ahead and bought a handful of maternity shirts and a few dresses back in the first trimester. I felt like my stomach grew enough that my normal shirts didn’t look good anymore. So besides the maternity shirts, I thrifted some large and extra-large shirts to tide me over until I actually had a belly. Well now I actually have a belly! Yay! It’s so fun to fill out the cute, cinched shirts, but my jeans are a whole other story. I have been using a belly band, but that is beyond uncomfortable. I think it might be time to invest in a couple pairs of maternity jeans for the next few months.

Any Symptoms?

Stretchmarks: Besides the few marks I noticed a few weeks ago, I haven’t noticed anymore. I’ve just been continually using the belly butter and drinking as much water as I can stomach.

Hunger: I am hungry all the time, but I feel like my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I will stuff my face to my heart’s content and then feel stuffed to the brim. Working on pacing myself.

Heartburn: Giving up on this subsiding. Bring on the battle heartburn.

Skin: I have one breakout right now… right on the tip on my nose. When it’s gone, hopefully I can avoid any new ones.

Sore Breasts: The soreness comes and goes.

Cramps: Only a few charley horses in my foot. It’s rare and as soon as I walk on it, it goes away.

Back Pain: I don’t expect this pain to subside either. My job requires me to sit for long periods of time – I take breaks, but they don’t make much of a difference. One of my goals is to stretch and walk more, so we will see if that helps.

Nesting: This is a current big one. This past weekend, Jeremiah and I went on a purging frenzy. We went through our whole closet, sorting through boxes and boxes of stuff we had practically not even thought about since we moved in. Jeremiah managed to empty four storage boxes!! We rearranged the closet to make more space and then moved our dresser to the other side of the room to begin clearing out the side we are setting up for Hazel. We still have a bit more work to do, but I am so ready to set up her little nursery area!!

Any Baby Movement?

Y’all, we FINALLY felt some subtle baby movement!!!! It was so sweet and exciting. She likes to squirm around when I’m trying to go to sleep or just reading on the couch. It’s so funny – almost every time she starts to move when Jeremiah is around, I will immediately place his hand on my stomach and she will just stop. Luckily, he has felt her little flutters a few times.

What Are You Most Looking Forward To?

We are still waiting for that first real kick, but being able to feel some movement has made the wait so much more bearable! Besides being anxious and excited for more and more movement, I am definitely ready for our next ultrasound! Getting to see our baby girl the first two times was incredible, but this time she will look even more like the little babe she will be when she arrives.
